Reliving the Weekend

Christmas is here (at least in season). This past weekend I got to join in on the Hirsh family tradition of Light Up Night downtown. While construction made getting around a little fun, it was a fantastic night. The fireworks were fantastic, the music was good, and Santa was well Santa.

Saturday brought a new milestone in the road to the wedding, the cake testing. We went to Signature Desserts and loved every minute of it. So now we've got a cake to add to the list. Next up, DJ and Honeymoon.

Saturday night a bunch of us headed downtown for dinner and a show. Dinner at tambolinies was decent, and the show was fantastic. The Rockeets (Spelled?) put on a great show. The first half was better than the second, but the music and staging really got me in the christmas spirit.

Sunday was more relaxed with visiting mom and dad (happy belated birthday), lunch/dinner at Laureen's parents house and a nice nap and relaxing evening. Now if I could just shake this fluish feeling it could be a great week leading upto Thanksgiving.

Love Those Fridays...

Just when I think the week will never end, its Friday. Nothing but a relaxing...oh wait, not so much. While I enjoy going to football games and other running around on the weekends, its always nice to have a day when you can just relax in bed until noon, head downstairs and relax on the couch watching tv, and then make some dinner and head back to bed.

This weekend I'm going to shock everyone when my Christmas decorations head out and the lawn gets winterized. It should be an interesting weekend to say the least. Of course don't forget...Hail to Pitt!

Chilling on a Tuesday...

Nothing beats a relaxing night on the couch watching a little tv. Except when you have the one you love resting on your shoulder. I've been hooked on the Biggest Loser by Laureen. Its an amazing show when you see the amount of weight that some of these people have lost. Its also pretty funny when they try to slide the product placement items in the show. It just doesn't seem natural when two people are just walking down the sidewalk and suddenly one of them pulls out a pack of Extra gum and talks about the nutritional value of chewing a piece.

Anyway, I'm heading back to relaxing. Enjoy your night everyone.

Just Another Monday

Mondays just simply are the pits. You come off a great weekend and immediately you've got to jump right back into work. Someone should get around to making Mondays a national half work day. I know that it won't happen at my job (I do love my boss though, hehe). Productivity would increase so much, and I know I'd be a happier camper. Anyway, Mondays seem like they'll never end. All I know is that nothing would be finer that cooking dinner at home and then curling up on the couch and watching a little classic tv or a good movie.

I'm Back

I know its been a while, and my loyal follower has been waiting patiently. I guess that no news is good news except that I actually have some news, so I guess I'm really just a slacker. Time for the updates:

- August can't come fast enough. I'm marrying the love of my life (and I'm not just writing that because she's sitting and reading over my shoulder.). All of my theories and thoughts have been actually proven over the last 11 months we've been dating. I couldn't be happier or looking forward to the years to come more.

- The half-marathon in me is dead. What can I say, I gave it my best shot but not really. I've joined a gym and Laureen says I'm turning into an athlete. Maybe running a 5K is more realistic, so here I come Jingle Bell Run. It may take all day, but I'll crawl to the finish if I have to (probably not).

I'll try to keep updating my reader as much as possible from now on. Take care and remember to lift with your knees when shoveling the feet of snow soon to come.

Theory of Waiting

I know its been a while but I figured that I'd kick things off with a new theory...

The saying goes that good things happen to those who wait, but I think its more than just good things. Wiating makes events and items that much more enjoyable. Like a really good dinner, the thing given up for lent, or even that long hug hello after a long time away from the person you love the most. Ever had one of those Christmas mornings where you knew what was coming so you rushed through the presents to find that one gift. Its not as rewarding as savoring each present only to find the one gift you're looking for waiting for you at the end. Even if the waiting is the hardest part, sometimes its simply worth it in the end.

Updates on Updates

its been a while since I've posted anything so lets update on the happenings in my little world:

- I've really started getting ready for the Pittsburgh Half-Marathon in May. I was really exceited when I could get upto a mile and a half on the eliptical, but when I hit the road on Sunday the bubble burst. I could only get 3/4 of a mile running. Not even close to where I need to be. Fortunately the weather seems to be improving so I'll hit the road again today & see how it goes.

- I took my mom to Disney World last week for a little R&R. Nice trip, great memories, but it was missing something (someone) to make it that much better. Oh well, I guess there is always next time.

- Lastly, I'm heading to D.C. with Laureen this weekend. I'm really looking forward to this trip. Not only because she and I are going, but being Valentine's Day Weekend I've got a few surprises planned. Nothing big, but just enough to make some memories.

Thats all the news that I'm willing to post today. Hope everyone has a great week.

Big Weekend

I know that everyone is pulling for the Steelers on Sunday. I mean it is the Super Bowl, why shouldn't they be the center of attention. But lets all not forget about Pitt Basketball. This team is unreal. After crusing through Notre Dame on Saturday it should be impressive to watch them head through the rest of the Big East Conference and into March Maddness. Depending on where they end up in the bracket, a final four berth isn't totally out of the question.

Weathermen

So I've decided that a trained monkey could become a weatherman here in Pittsburgh. All the stations were calling for a "dusting" of snow this morning. Right now we've got about a inch and a half with no end in sight. Someone needs to buy these people a new computer or something. They've even started calling the storm expected on Monday a "crippling" storm. What the heck does that mean? I'm not really sure I want to find out.

The Theory of Patience

Another week means another theory. This weeks topic is patience:

As I've gotten older its become apparent that when you are a patient person good things will happen. It kind of relates back to the old adage of never go looking for a fight. Personal or professional it doesn't matter. Waiting for the right opportunity or person to come along makes it that much more worth while when something really good happens. Now more than ever I believe that by not pushing for what you want can you find true happiness.

Another Snowy Day

If its Thursday it must mean more snow and dreary. I could really go for some sunshine right about now, but at least the weekend is coming up. With the Panthers playing on Saturday and the Super Bowl on Sunday it looks like it may be another winner of a weekend. Of course I'd be content just curling up on the couch watching a movie.

Hunkering Down

Well its January in Pittsburgh, so that means the weather is bound to make a turn for the worst. Low and behold tomorrow through Wednesday it should be fun with snow and ice. The white stuff I don't mind too much, but I could live without the ice.

If it wasn't for work I'd love to be snuggled up on the couch watching movies and simply just relaxing.

The Wow Theory

I've discovered that in life there are certain moments when your breath gets taken away and all you can think is Wow!. Usually these are momentous occasions (first really nice car, birth of a child, winning the lottery, etc). For me I've had two wow moments in my life.

The first was when I got my college diploma. After struggling through school for five years it was an impressive accomplishment for me. All I could do was sit on my couch and stare at the diploma showing what I had done.

The second was more recent and I'll save that one for later.

Jersey Boys

I had a nice night out last night heading down to see Jersey Boys. The show was fantastic. I really had no idea the Four Seasons sang as many songs I knew. It has been a while since I've had a night out where it was so much fun. I highly recommend the show if it comes to your town, especially if you have that special someone to go with.

Thoughts and Theories

Over my years I have developed many thoughts and theories and several topics. Hopefully they can become a nice part of this site. Some of them are pretty out there, but others actually make some sense (which is pretty scary). They may provide some insight, but mostly you'll probably just laugh pretty darn hard.

Another Snowy Tuesday...

As a skier I can enjoy a good snow fall as much as the next person, but when it starts spitting the white stuff on a Tuesday it just makes me shake my head. The one constant it seems is that no matter the season Tuesday will always have the worst weather. Makes for a fun drive to the Irwin office and may make the day go a little faster.
